Not sure if I did this last month, but oh well. I just think it’s time for me to make another playlist for you guys. I apologize in advance for all the depressing songs, but they’re still good. This was a month of longing, belonging, falling out, breaking, coveting, and realization that through the hardships life is still worth living. That would be a common theme among the songs in this list. Bold songs have my highest recommendation.
1. “Saturday Love” — Angels and Airwaves
I’ve never been the biggest AVA fan, but their new album, “Love” for some reason makes me feel tranquil, something only Death Cab has been able to do with me. Their music is so magical sometimes that it helps carry me away.
So I just like to daydream, ‘cause dreams only make me happy.
Will you come along my love? Will you come along here with me
2. “Ships in the Night” — Mat Kearney
Not much to this, but Kearney shows his talent as he slightly raps in this song and sings quite a catchy song…
We’re just fumbling through the gray, trying to find a heart that’s not walking away.
3. “January Jones” — Hoodie Allen
Okay, this doesn’t fit my earlier criteria, but this song just makes me happy.
Oh you drive me mad, and I come right back.
4. “You’re Making It Come Alive” — My Favorite Highway
This has to be my favorite song ever. If it weren’t for this song, and this band, I wouldn’t be writing songs. They have saved my life several times, and whenever I feel down, this ends up on repeat. Perfect writing.
Life flies by so you have to embrace it, forget the past because you cannot erase it. Live the dream and learn to chase it.
5. “Amazing” — Ben Rector
Ben’s music reminds me a lot of mine. His happiest songs are upbeat but still downbeat and that’s why I love this song. It is so good and I love Ben!
I don’t know why I took this time to say these words.
6. “Endlessly” — The Cab
I wouldn’t call myself a fan of the Cab, and I find Alex Deleon a huge asshole, but this song from their new album is so good. It is cheesy as anything, but I love the beat and the use of strings.
There’s no guarantee that this would be easy, it’s not a miracle you need, you need me.
7. “So In Love” — The Icarus Account
This band needs to be famous. They are so good, and their words are so meaningful. They remind me a lot of MFH but with much more mature vocals. This song is so slow, but so hopeful, and so heartbreaking.
You’re one of the angels, yeah it’s true, I’m standing in heaven when I’m with you.
